Sanctuary members, here is an opportunity to help a child and family in need.

You may have seen blue ribbons tied around the trees in Downers Grove. These bows are to support Brenna Quirin , a second grader in Kingsley School fighting a rare cancer. Follow the link for her story and an opportunity to help http://www.mysuburbanlife.com/downersgrove/topstories/x1018076988/Downers-Grove-has-blues-for-Brenna

The Concept Care Chiropractic and Wellness, 6234 Main St., Downers Grove is hosting its annual Ladies Night in honor of Brenna from 7pm to 9 pm May 9 with free wine and appetizers, massages, paraffin wax treatments and fun. This year donations will go toward offsetting expenses that the Quirin family will now encounter. Admission is free.

A website , Fight Brenna Fight, has been established to donations at www.wepay.com/donations/147475. An account has been set up at the Community bank of Downers Grove. Checks can be made “Fight Brenna Fight” and donors can just walk in for donations.

Trip Report for CMSC Chicago Week at Steamboat Colorado

Saturday was pretty uneventful. We left Midway, arrived DIA and bussed to Applejacks, and then to Timber Run condos in Steamboat. Saturday night some went out to the Old Town Pub for food and the band. Others went on to the three hot tubs and pool. Sunday was a good weather ski day. We started the day with free donuts and coffee, which were available every day at the office. Ten per cent discounts on food and hot chocolate for a dollar were available everywhere in Steamboat just by showing your CMSC credentials. We had two injuries Monday. One on the slope, one not. Some people went for the free mountain tour in the morning. That night CMSC had a Welcome Party with a DJ & Dancing at the Bear River Bar and Grill in Gondola Square. Several members won prizes. Myra & Greg won first tracks on the hill. Dancing went on till 11pm with the same DJ that CMSC used at last year’s Chicago Week. Free liquor was flowing and the second free keg of beer was not even opened. Chicken, bacon, cheese, chips, salsa and fruit were on hand. It was really cool to talk to Billy Kid. Monday was another good day of skiing with another mountain tour. Free action pictures were taken by the CMSC photographer of our skiers who went down the designated run. Two practice runs were included on the hill for Tuesday’s race. Monday evening the pub crawl had discounts at seven bars. Tuesday’s skiing had some snow squalls. Sanctuary was able to just miss them prior to their free Nastar race. Two runs were allowed. A mountain lunch was held after the race just below the course. Later that evening another party was held at Bear River Bar and Grill in Gondola Square. This party’s food and drink were about the same, except they were serving Champagne as well. Nastar medals were given out to just about everyone who did two runs. Billy Kid talked on stage about several things and invited everyone to ski with him the next day. Lindsay and I got pictures taken with Billy Kid. Dawn got her Nastar medal pinned on by Billy Kid. More prizes from the pub crawl were given out, Myra & Greg again. They were not the only winners. Jamie & Ed won door prizes also. Dancing proceeded again. Wednesdays are customarily a no CMSC event day and this Wednesday was no exception. Some people went skiing, some with Billy Kid, and others went to Strawberry Springs, or snowmobiling. Thursday was another ski day topped off by Apres Ski at the Tug Boat for appetizers. Friday the Farewell Party was held in the Champagne Powder Room at the Thunderhead Building, atop the gondola. A great band and food and many drinks were included. It was announced that Chicago Week will be in Aspen next year. Some fair weather skiers complained about not enough sun and too much snow this week. Other skiers I talked to said this was one of the best weeks of skiing they’ve ever had. Leaving late Saturday morning made the travel day more bearable. The plane arrived back at Midway without anyone having to pay extra for luggage because we used Southwest Airlines.
