Sanctuary Ski Club’s Bike Ride of the Month!
Are you ready to pump?
Des Plaines River Trail - Southern Section
(Lake County, IL)

Saturday, May 10th

9:00 AM MEET, 9:30 AM WE RIDE!

This trail is one of the best bike trails in the Chicago area with few roads to cross, many bridges and is lined with trees. This trail winds along the Des Plaines River and is fairly flat with a crushed limestone surface - so thin tires are OK. Plan to ride at least 11 miles north (22 round trip) or you could continue on up to Wisconsin. This trail ROCKS!

Directions: From the northbound Tri-State Tollway 294, exit on Route 22 west. Continue west 2 miles, turn right or slight right at Old Half Day Rd for .4 miles, turn right at Milwaukee Ave (Route 21) and go north almost 1 mile and enter the Half Day Preserve on the right. There is plenty of parking (we'll try to meet in the 1st available parking lot - closest to the entrance). For a map "www.mapquest.com" end location use: Old Half Day Rd & Milwaukee Ave, Half Day, IL 60069.

The ride: We plan to go north on the trail, follow the signs "DPR north." There are other trail loops that you will encounter, so follow the signs. Remember the trail exit to the parking lot, this can be tricky to find on your return. The 11 mile point is at Route 137/Buckley road. For more information visit Lake County Forest Preserve website www.lcfpd.org. Here are some things that you might want to bring on the ride:

BICYCLE LOCK • WATER BOTTLE • MONEY • SPARE INNER TUBE • 2-WAY RADIO

HELMET & SEAT BAG or RACK (FOR CARRYING THE ABOVE)

For the Talkabout 2-way radio fans, we will be jabbering on channel 7 / band 7.

Just show up, meet the group, and ride (SHOW AND GO).
