We have caught up with our meeting minutes, and Keith reiterated for one last time that he was the roadblock. The roadblock has been cleared and it should not happen again.
Due to the arrival of winter and the potential of lighter attendance we don’t intend to have any presentations at our January through March meetings. We do intend to revive our practice of presentations or discussions with the April meeting.
At the last board meeting two weeks ago the board made some significant decisions regarding charitable donations.
As most know, we have been doing fundraising to help Michael Glasder in his quest to make the US Olympic Ski Jumping Team, however all the money raised to date has been money we brought in from outside sources. Two weeks ago we decided to provide an additional $5,000 to help Mike with his training, travel and competition expenses as he tries to make the team.
As many realize, the recession has deeply impacted charitable donations, and the American Blind Skiing Foundation has found itself hurting. CMSC decided to make a donation of $5,000 to ABSF to help support their western trip this year.
The Norge Ski Training Center, the educational arm of the Norge Ski Club, has also been hit by the current economy. NSTC provides ski jumping training to interested youth, and the program can point to Mike Glasder as a successful product of their program. CMSC decided to make a donation of $7,000 to help support the ski jumping training that NSTC provides.
The financial donations made in these cases should not be considered excessive, as it has been more than five years since we have made donations to ABSF or Norge. The financial support for Mike Glasder is a bit more unique, as it’s fairly rare to have an Olympic skiing hopeful from one of our clubs.
Please be reminded that our partnership with Skiing Magazine still offers a free one year subscription or free one year extension to all of your members. The link is available on our website and the special code is magoffer. We have received requests for the code and we are referring the people that request them back to their club in order to promote this as a benefit of club membership.

MICHAEL GLASDER PROJECT – Michael Pogar mpogar@sbcglobal.net:
Mike Thomas read an e-mail from Mike Glasder’s mother, Kathy Glasder.
Mike and a handful of other jumpers are in Sapporo, Japan. They just completed a Continental Cup comp and are working on earning ‘points’ = the name of the game right now! He felt that his jump on the last day of comps was his BEST this season - yet ‘Mother Nature’ crept in with MAJOR tail winds and kept him from jumping as far as he wanted to. He continues to stay focused and train hard! The team is staying in Sapporo prior to the World Cup competition this weekend. They have had 3 days of training and then one day of ‘official training’ = 2 jumps per jumper and then the competition. They all fly in to Park City 1/18/10. The team will be announced on 1/19 or 1/20. At this point, the U.S. will have either 3 or 4 spots - still to be determined based on results by the FIS group. So, now is a numbers game and time to ‘get it done’!!! Please continue to keep Mike in your thoughts and prayers! On behalf of our family, thank you for your abundance of generosity - we are so VERY appreciative and also look forward to partnering with the CMSC on future projects with our club!
Bob Meyer reported that Hustlers is having a club outing at Uno’s in Schaumburg this Friday, January 15. Uno’s will donate a percentage of the special sales that night to Mike Glasder. You need a flier, which Bob has, and they are good all day, eat in or take out, at the Schaumburg location only. Uno’s will donate 15% of total sales if under $1,000 and 20% if over $1,000.
Mike Thomas reported that raffle tickets are still available. Prizes are four nights lodging, three days lifts and airport transfers for two in Banff; four nights lodging and three days lift tickets for two in Telluride; five nights lodging (midweek), four days lift tickets in Whitefish. Tickets are $5 a piece. Air transportation is not included in the prizes.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE – Ray Piwowarczyk skiray1@aol.com:
Ray Piwowarczyk has been appointed to convene the Nominating Committee in preparation
for the election of officers for 2010-11. By our Constitution the Nominating
Committee is made up of the appointed Vice Presidents, the Regional Vice Presidents
and the Past President. The first action of the Nominating Committee is to elect
a chair. The floor will be opened for nominations at the March and April general
meetings, and the election will be held at the May general meeting.
Ray announced that he will be in e-mail contact with the committee members.
MISSED REPORTS - None
OLD BUSINESS: None
NEW BUSINESS:
We discovered in mid-2009 that CMSC failed to reregister as a not-for-profit
corporation in the State of Illinois in 2002, and we have been in involuntary
dissolution since then. We have made the necessary corrections and we are once
again compliant with the state. Bob Meyer will be our new Registered Agent.
Keith Fanta reported that two weeks ago he requested Mike McCrery, our Parliamentarian, to draft the necessary changes to the Constitution and Standing Rules to create a new class of membership in CMSC. This would be for ski councils. There are currently a couple small ski councils operating within the states in which we have member clubs, and the new class would allow councils to join CMSC; there would be no dues from the council, no voting privileges and the only requirement would be that every club within these councils would have to be a current CMSC member. The benefit to CMSC is that these councils would be encouraging the clubs to maintain their membership; the benefit to the councils is that they would get more exposure through the Midwest Skier and our website, and they would be able to send people to Trip Seminar with their council’s name on their badges.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Mike Thomas has vouchers from Shanty Creek good for either a five-dollar super
ticket Monday through Friday, or two-for-one lift tickets on Saturday and Sunday.
Bill Gleason reported that the Chicago Tribune had an article warning people trying to go the Olympics in Vancouver that Canada treats a DUI differently than the US, and anyone with a DUI within the last ten years cannot gain entrance to Canada, even if it was plea bargained to a lesser charge.
Don Zebrauskas reported that Piccadilly Ski Club will be holding their banquet on Saturday, April 10, at the Carlisle on Butterfield Road.
